Yep, the new iMac is way too thin. Why? Standing of the computer doesn’t make it look thin. In fact, the new iMac looks pretty much the same from its predecessor beside a better screen. There is no clear advantage of making it so thin because we don’t carry this computer. The problem becomes apparent when you start to think about the comprises that were made.
Often used ports are still on the back. There used to be a memory card slot on the side but now it has moved to the back. A place which is pretty much inconvenient. Now, you want to add memory and you’re pretty much out of luck. The base configuration of the 21,5” iMac comes with a 5400 RPM hard drive instead of the 7200 RPM because of heat generation or higher speed drive.
The new iMac is a great piece of engineering, but it seems to pose a challenge to produce and gives few improvements to the end user (expect the screen which is very important though). My next Mac will be the Mac mini.
