Apple After Steve Jobs

"1.24.14"

Thirty years ago Macintosh promised to put technology in the hands of the people. To celebrate Mac’s birthday, this film was shot around the world in one day, entirely on iPhone. Here’s to the next thirty.

If this video about the Mac? Or is it about the iPhone or even the iPad? Maybe it is about Apple’s products and technology. I don’t know. Does this make this ad ambiguous?

I’m very impressed by the magnitude of the celebration for the 30th birthday of the Macintosh. I wasn’t expecting that much. It was all over the place: on the web, in Apple Stores, on the Mac App Store, on Apple campus and even on national TV with Tim Cook interview on ABC News. Color me as impressed.
But, somehow I wonder. I keep asking myself: what if Steve Jobs was still with us? What kind of magnitude this event would have been? We know that Steve wasn’t very interested by the past. He wasn’t nostalgic. He wasn’t proud of Apple in the nineties. Still, Apple showed every single year of the Macintosh. I suspect this would have made Steve Jobs uneasy with the idea of showing computers he didn’t help create or while he was out of Apple. Just compare the purity of the original Macintosh (1984) and the Macintosh SE (1986). The latter isn’t Steve Jobs and it shows…
Yes, I wonder what would have been the 30th anniversary celebration if Steve Jobs was still at Apple.
