Do It Yourself - Brent Simmons on iCloud
What? According to Brent Simmons, as a developer, you shouldn’t rely on others to implement the server part of your mobile apps. But is this the same thing on relying on other apps on a daily basis? Non sense.
It may be very enlightening to learn web services plumbing and create back end services but one cannot do everything. There is a limit to what a single person or a small team can do.
Apple, Google and the like are liable of their offerings. We, as customers, must put pressure on them in order to keep improving their services. Remember, we vote with our money.

“Now, all of this exciting competition could be just a mirage if Apple blows the world away with the iPhone 5S, if Windows Phone 8 devices all bomb as Microsoft’s (MSFT) ill-fated Surface has, and if Samsung’s dominance forces rival Android vendors to quit the market. But for the first time in a while, I feel as though I don’t really know where the mobile industry is headed. And that is very exciting.”
I see where the mobile industry is headed: Android dominated world. Google made Android because they didn’t want Apple to dominate the market. I’m not sure that I prefer a world dominated by Google.

On Google opposing Apple in smartphone market
Could not agree more with John Gruber on Google decision to go in the mobile space market just to oppose Apple and stop them from becoming another Microsoft.
