Change as Innovation: How do you know?

People saying that Apple didn’t innovate with the iPhone 5 are so clueless. They look at iPhone 5 pictures dans say: meh? They have to hold it an feel it before making any judgement.

If Samsung is so “rapidly innovating” maybe it is because their original smartphones were so crappy and in need of major improvements. Who knows.

When does a device change is seen as an innovation instead of just a mere improvement? Where do you draw the line?

Apple, Stay Focused, Don’t Get Distracted

When I read news about Phil Schiller bashing on Android and indireclty Samsung products, I just hope this is not the start of losing focus at Apple. I think this is not a good idea to bash at others in order to send your message that your products or your things are better. Politicians do this all the time and I hate this.

Microsoft lost focused in the 90s for this reason. They made a lot of products just in respond to others taking lead in emerging markets. One prime example of that is Internet Explorer. They went after Netscape. When Netscape died, they went after AOL. Microsoft lost it eventually when the mobile industry picked and started to replace PCs.

I wish Apple keep their focus at doing great products that shows a perfect union of hardware and software tightly integrated. Don’t chase Android or Samsung. Follow your own destiny. Keep looking ahead.

US: iPhone Market Share Up, Androïd is Down

Two interesting things to note about these numbers from comScore.

First, in the second most important market for Apple after China, iOS market share is up. This will make it hard for The Wall Street Journal to explain how bad this is for Apple who is losing it.

Second, the numbers from comScore shows that Samsung is still gaining ground with Androïd compared to others. I’m not sure at all that Google likes the fact that Androïd is becoming a synonym of Samsung or worst that Samsung IS Androïd.

When Samsung looks at what materials to use, it isn’t just taking into consideration the aesthetic quality of the device, Lee said. The company also assesses how quickly and efficiently it can manufacture the product, knowing that it will have to ship a high volume.

Samsung’s words on the upcoming Galaxy S4.

See? For Samsung, manufacturing process is at least as much important as the users. Samsung is using plastics. Apple is using higher quality materials.

Apple’s Ads Compared to Samsung’s

Apple ads have a mission: expose the product, make it the star. By doing so, explaining how it can be used, educating the viewers. In contrast, Samsung’s ads is everything but the product. They bash Apple’s customers. They rarely show the product and explain things about them. This is such a profond contrast. Why?

Apple had the first move advantage with the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad. They try new things so they have to show their products and the benefits of using them. They explain things.

Samsung is making people based ads because they don’t have to explain anything as they copy products from others.

Plain and simple.
